Description:We are looking for 20-40 acres to start up a Rescue/Sanctuary for wolfdogs. I have spoken with Deputy Allen a few times and he gave me quite a bit of information to help set up the facility; in regards to the kennel license, etc. He said that wolfdogs are legal in Jefferson County, so that wouldnt be an issue.
My question is, can you tell me for our property searches what type of land Jefferson County allows an individual to startup an educational sanctuary/rescue where the public can come visit via scheduled tours or possible drop ins? Most of the properties we are looking at are zoned rural residential. Would that be allowed? We would be living on site as well. The sanctuary would also be USDA insured and certified. Washington Fish and Game has already given the thumbs up and we are now waiting for our nonprofit paperwork to come back.
There was a 20 acre parcel we were under contract with a few months ago just outside Port Ludlow, perfect location for this type of business. The owner thought he had already split his 40 acre parcel into two parcels back in August when he found out it didnt actually go thru. So he had to break contract with us and his other buyers for the other 20 acre parcel. He will be relisting that property in four months.
As of now we currently live in Snohomish County on 5 acres and I have had a dog boarding business for 17 years now. (Woods Creek Kennels, Inc.) The only requirement from our planning department is that the property must be a minimum of 5 acres, yet can be zoned rural residential. I realize all counties are different so we dont want to find the perfect place and make an offer only to find out the zoning is not allowed for this type of business.
Our educational facility would bring in tourism and as I stated it would be upscale and very well maintained, a quiet peaceful place to visit.
Although we have been given the ok from Snohomish County to build it here, we are looking to retire in Jefferson County. We currently have four rescue wolfdogs now, see attachments of two of them below. They are tame and well socialized, ambassadors of their kind so to speak.
Any guidance/information you can offer to point us in the right direction is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much and Happy New Year! |
